ABSTRACT

The impact shock and post-impact vibration transfer in tennis have been hypothesized to contribute to upper extremity injuries. To reduce the transmission of the impact force to the hand, a damping material or a cushion grip band has now been used. Although study of the effectiveness of a grip band has now been reported (Hatze, 1992a, Hatze, 1992b), how a damping material reduces the impact force has not been measured.
