ABSTRACT

Although, there is a considerable amount of information about the fluid replacement needs of the adult athlete [American College of Sports Medicine(ACSM), 1985], little is known for the exercising child and especially the young tennis player. Fluid replacement needs during exercise depend primarily on the exercise intensity, body size, environmental heat stress and fluid intake patterns. This study attempted to determine the fluid replacement needs of young tennis players, while accounting for the influence of exercise intensity, freely chosen drinking patterns and environmental conditions during a competitive tennis match.
