ABSTRACT
An organization may be defined as a group of people working together over a period of time to achieve a common goal. Most professionals do, or eventually will, perform a management role in such an organization. This chapter looks at a range of built environment organizations and provides ways of understanding their nature, the way they are structured and what is meant by organizational culture. It also discusses some of the main influences and theories which have contributed to our knowledge of organizations.
