ABSTRACT

Work related low-back injuries are presently one of the greatest problems that the community faces. The economic costs in terms of medical expenses, lost production and compensation are enormous. Employees in heavy industry, particularly manual material handlers, have a high incidence of low-back problems and have received considerable attention in the literature (Aghazadeh and Ayoub, 1985; Garg et al., 1980; Jiang et al., 1986; Kamon et al., 1982; Mirka and Marras, 1990; Mital et al., 1986).
