ABSTRACT

Total health consists of a variety of components, notably the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions (Bensley, 1991). The spiritual dimension is seen by some researchers as the dimension that unifies, coordinates and facilitates the other dimensions (Banks et al., 1984). Spiritual Well-Being (SW) is also seen as something which gives meaning or purpose to life and which makes the other dimensions function better (Banks et al., 1984). Closely related to level of SW are values, norms, attitudes and self-concept (Banks et al., 1984; Sweeting, 1990).
