ABSTRACT

Physical fitness is a component of health and the overall functioning capacity is a parameter for the assessment of physical fitness. There is evidence to suggest that the functioning capacity and an individual’s body type can have a moderating effect on job preferences or on the performance level. The parameters of musculo-skeletal operating capacity are torque, velocity, endurance and co-ordination. The velocity of the movement of the trunk is a very delicate variable in low-back problems (LBP) (Marras and Wongsam, 1986; Gomez et al., 1991; Szpalski et al., 1991). Endurance tests show a decrease of velocity and a loss of co-ordination (Parnianpour et al., 1989; Szpalski and Hayez, 1992).
