ABSTRACT

Wherever you go throughout the world, control mechanisms exist which attempt to promote economic and social well-being without incurring environmental costs. The rights of the individual as well as the community at large need to be protected so that society is able to feel confident about its future. Whatever the legal system, there is a need for a variety of personnel to ensure its efficient operation, and these people require good education and training in order to cope with the complexities of a rapidly changing world. The roles of these legal personnel vary from country to country but the example of those operating within the English legal system will be discussed by way of illustration.
