ABSTRACT

It is imperative that those who work within the built environment have a basic understanding of the way in which our legal system works. In order to be able to take prudent decisions and give effective advice, we need to be aware of the principal sources of law and the way in which the law is applied in practice. Put simply, the law comprises a body of principles, and this chapter will explain how these principles come into existence and the way in which they are applied by those who are responsible for administering justice.
