ABSTRACT
The terms ‘durability’ and ‘degradation’ are widely used in both the field of construction materials and construction engineering. However, one can wonder what is meant exactly with these terms, or how they can be assessed. This paper discusses these two aspects with regard to geological construction materials. The applicability of petrography as a tool to assess the durability of geological contraction material is reviewed.
