ABSTRACT

This paper briefly describes the use of water repellent agents as a measure to improve the durability of masonries. Advantages and disadvantages, different silicone types and demands on the impregnation are described. Furthermore, some results from laboratory investigations of penetration depth and drying out of a wet masonry are given. Finally, a case study is described. In this case study severe frost damage was eliminated by a water repellent impregnation.
