ABSTRACT

In a number of letters dated between 1914 and 1917 now preserved in his native home in Cuiheng Village, Zhongshan County, Sun Yatsen, father of the 1911 Revolution, wrote about various matters of family finance to his first wife Lu Muzhen ( Aomen ribao 1991). 1 Mostly details on domestic issues, Sun discussed amounts of monthly allowances he was sending her (Sun married Song Qingling in Japan on 25 October 1915), their son Sun Ke’s loan for building a house, and charity work related to schools and relatives. In a letter dated 16 December 1916, Sun specifically referred to her earlier correspondence concerning the purchase of Wing On Company stocks, and expressed his agreement with her decision. He ended his basically business-oriented letter by referring to his own speedy recovery from a short illness.
