ABSTRACT
Households are historical phenomena. As basic organizational units of human society they should not be essentialized. They change according to time and place and accommodate to social, economic and political circumstances. Households – in the so-called 'private sphere' – are influenced by public policies, which reflect and reinforce prevailing norms and values on to inter-household relations or on the 'proper place' of their constituting members.
