ABSTRACT
South and southern Africa stand on the threshold of a new era, both political and economic, as a consequence of two main factors: firstly the new political acceptability of South Africa in both the regional and the world economy and, secondly, the changing nature of the international economy. This chapter, focusing upon trade in agricultural commodities, examines the options open to southern Africa, notably in the context of regional cooperation.
