ABSTRACT

It is certainly not necessary at the outset of this paper to discuss at length for the reader the importance of Nicholas of Cusa and his ideas. Cusanus has been recognized by many as one of the most original and creative thinkers of the fifteenth century. Especially in recent years, his philosophical and theological works have been studied intensively. As the 600th anniversary of his birth is celebrated in Japan in 2000 and in Germany, France, the U.S.A. and other countries in 2001, his fame will become greater and his philosophical ideas better known than before. It is important to remember, however, that by training he was a canon lawyer.
