ABSTRACT

The Gulf War in 1991 and the Kosovo War in 1999 have heralded a high-technology development in the field of defense. The development in the manner of waging war and in war machines is stimulating the world's major military powers to address this so-called ‘Revolution in Military Affairs’ (RMA). This also involves streamlining defense and military organizational structures and restudying war and strategic theories with a view to establishing a modern military force capable of meeting these new trends in war. Joint operations are now commonplace in war, and in the high-tech era the navies and air forces are becoming more influential and, consequently, are also receiving more attention and resources.
