ABSTRACT

On the right bank of the Volta we find Yeji, Prang, and Dwang, a cluster of dialects spoken at Kwame Danso and nearby villages east of Atebubu.

There is a considerable amount of mutual intelligibility among Nchumburu, Yeji-Prang, Dwang, Krachi, but considerably less intelligibility between these forms and Gonja or Gichode. Christaller and Westermann both regarded the whole of Guang as one language, but this seems unjustified, especially in consideration of the Guang languages spoken south of this 'heartland' (which has been considerably affected by the formation of the Volta Lake).
