ABSTRACT

This essay is brief simply because defence is not a dominant element in that relationship; its importance has declined, is declining, and is likely to decline still further. By the same token, the Anglo-Canadian axis does not afford a very useful perspective from which to view the security concerns of either power. This is perhaps particularly true for the United Kingdom. For both countries, all other security relationships pale into insignificance when compared to that with the United States. For the United Kingdom the major nations of Western Europe constitute another compelling military concern that must surely grow in years to come.
