ABSTRACT
In any discussion on development there is an analytical taboo: the nation-state. It is an axiom of developmental theory. Economic models are specially designed monoaxiomatically, and they require the nation-state and its national market as a basis for foreign trade. This axiom, the nation-state, can be compared to a Janus face. One side is temptation and the other is oppression. The nation-state is the false axiom of a possibly correct theory which would like to solve the problem of disparate development.
