ABSTRACT
Zionism is one of the greatest success stories in human efforts to weave the future. 1 Within 50 years it produced a large and thriving Jewish society in the Land of Israel, and the State of Israel has become a viable political entity Furthermore, despite pronounced differences, Israel's main features approximate the original visions of Zionism much more so than in the case of other revolutionary transformations. However, at present the evolutionary potential of Israel remains wide open, with both extremes, or alternative futures - decline and ascendance - constituting distinct possibilities.
