ABSTRACT

Women living with HIV face complex choices concerning their own sexuality, in particular with respect to decisions to be sexually active, to practise safer sex, to communicate their status to partners, and to make plans to have children or avoid pregnancy. As well, they are confronted by the paucity of knowledge among both scientists and caregivers in the field of HIV-related gynaecological illness. This chapter will provide an abbreviated overview of the current state of knowledge in relation to HIV in the interlinked fields of sexuality, procreation and reproductive choices, and gynaecology.
