ABSTRACT
The focus of this chapter is the increasing tendency for a wide range of quality of life data to be reported at the European level. Problems of reliability and validity, discussed elsewhere in the book, are of course even more acute when making international comparisons but there are also ‘cultural’ disagreements over what ought to be measured in order to present a comprehensive picture, and over the most appropriate general approach.
