ABSTRACT

Introduction to Law is a first-year course at Oxford Polytechnic that increased from 75 students in 1980 to 375 in 1990. In 1980 it was taught in the traditional way through lectures and seminars. To meet the problems of class size the course was radically redesigned and based around a series of student workbooks written and designed by the course team. The chapter reviews the experience of staff and students in coming to terms with the very different demands of this radical change in course delivery.
