How does Self Assessment Relate to Ideas about Learning?

Self assessment, as we have seen, is one of a number of ideas having an impact on teaching and learning. For a full understanding of self assessment it is necessary to locate it in the current debates which are transforming the ways in which teaching and learning are regarded. From one point of view, self assessment is a subset of discussions about teaching and learning. From another, it is an aspect of assessment, which is considered in the next chapter.
