ABSTRACT

The case studies presented in this section are concerned with the range of approaches to the development of flexible learning across a selection of university departments. These case studies explore a number of issues concerned with flexible learning. They discuss the need to develop more innovative approaches to teaching and learning as it has impacted upon the teachers and students within various departments. Practical ways of addressing these needs have been piloted and evaluated and many of the departments are now going on to a second stage of development where the pilot study moves from being experimental to being part of the teaching portfolio and new ideas are being developed to pilot stage. The cases demonstrate a growing confidence that flexible learning approaches can be beneficial to students and exciting for teachers.
