ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some of the infrastructural issues involved in mounting a flexible approach to teaching and learning with a focus on mature students who are released on a part-time basis by their employers. The point is made that support is a key issue in developing a quality experience. Many of the problems encountered by such students are, however, relevant across the range of flexible learners. The case is made for directing greater resources towards the non-classroom elements of a course where there is a danger of flexible learners becoming invisible learners or non-learners.
