ABSTRACT

SUMMARY This chapter describes an innovative two-fold strategy for the use of video technology to support the teaching and learning activities within De Montfort University. It shows how video can be used to provide a method of delivering lectures and demonstrations which would otherwise not be possible in a conventional lecture-room setting and how video recording of tutors’ assessment comments, related to student work, can enhance the feedback process while reducing staff work loads. Findings show how the video-based learning resources can be used to improve flexibility of student access to information and skills, encourage learners to take increased responsibility for their own learning programmes, provide students with detailed comparative feedback on their own performance and free staff time for individual tuition and creative work.
