ABSTRACT

Castley and Stowell describe the strategy adopted by Nene College to embed capability across a substantial part of the College’s curricular offerings. This required a lengthy consultative process designed to achieve a high level of staff support, particularly since the institutional commitment to the personal tutor system at a time of constrained resources implied changes in approach to teaching and learning. The innovation entailed the identification of the skills to be included and their incorporation in learning outcomes. An issue that had to be resolved was whether transferable skills should be developed in a ‘bolt-on’ module or within subject-based modules.
