ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the programme to embed a range of core skills (the retrieval and handling of information; communication and presentation; planning and problem solving; and social development and interaction) within each and every undergraduate programme of study at the University of Luton. The university's scheme involves the use of a very detailed skills template that describes skills development expectations at each level of undergraduate study. All modules in the university's Modular Credit Scheme have been mapped against the template to identify skills addressed in the module. Specific skills are not yet subject to individual assessment but all students leave the university with a transcript that recognizes their skills experience alongside their academic achievements.
