ABSTRACT

The consequence for the Global Campus team was that we had to devise a pedagogy that was not only useful for Web-based content delivery but would support learners managing their learning. The degree to which our variation on the distance education theme would require learners to manage their learning, the degree to which learning could be asynchronous, and the degree to which study would be interactively online depended on factors external to the project. Any syllabus revisions that were incorporated during the development of the distance learning materials redefined the syllabus for the programme and hence for home students studying in the conventional mode. The Global Campus version of the MSc Business Information Technology programme was first piloted in Cairo in September 1999, and in February 2000 the programme proper started with additional students in Hong Kong and in London.
