ABSTRACT

The 1969–1970 NBA season did not mark the end of the 1960s in a merely chronological sense; the league was in a state of transition on a number of levels. Bill Russell, the cornerstone of the Boston Celtics’ dynasty, retired in 1969 after claiming his eleventh championship in thirteen seasons. Six of the titles came at the expense of the Los Angeles Lakers, who featured the superstar duo of forward Elgin Baylor and guard Jerry West.
