ABSTRACT

Most experts agree that the future of information and entertainment will be the result of a merger of several technology sectors, including computers, telephone, broadcast, and cable television. Until recently, these sectors remained clearly separated both technologically and organizationally. The AT&T divestiture and Judge Greene’s Modified Final Judgment (MFJ) kept the phone and cable industries clearly separated. Cross-ownership rules and other regulations limited the involvement of broadcasters with other technology sectors.
