ABSTRACT

This paper provides expert commentary by Charles Kiesler, a former psychologist-president, on the six papers on the psychologist-president’s position contained in the special section of The Psychologist-Manager Journal (Lowman, 1999). Kiesler reviews common themes in the articles, including the value and relevance of training as a psychologist in becoming a president, the psychologist’s emphasis on understanding and predicting future behavior, and a focus on positive change in humans. He also notes several omissions from the six papers, including the limitations of scientific training for management and the interaction of organizational needs and leadership style.
