ABSTRACT

The insertion of fy/ after roots ending in /a/ is illustrated in (2)-(4). The roots /wisa-/ 'fast, hurriedly' and /nipa-/ are shown first, then the finals /-apasi-/ 'walk (pl.),' /-ahke-/ 'throw, drop, release,' /-ewesto-/ 'speak,' and /-imiya-/ 'attend church,' and then combinations in which Glide Insertion is applicable. Purely as an orthographic convention, I write inserted /y / with the preceding morpheme within stems but with the following morpheme when this is an inflectional suffix.
