ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews issues of Ukraine's educational reforms, including teacher education and school personnel preparation, as they are influenced by current reality and the ideological and political legacy. It draws upon limited sources of relevant information about national educational initiatives, including reforms of teacher education and school psychology, to which foreign scholars can gain access. Psychology in the schools will focus on service delivery models as well as areas of service. The chapter discusses the historical background and look at emerging educational reform endeavors and highlights aspects of Russification that relate to education. However, for the complex historical and political reasons, school psychology did not develop in Ukraine as an organized and separate discipline until this decade. The proposed course of study for school psychologists includes historical background, psychology in the schools, assessment issues, curriculum topics, and organization of school psychology programs.
