ABSTRACT

Filipinos in the United States have continued to celebrate the downfall of Ferdinand Marcos. And well they should. They were not only beneficiaries of that historical event, but participants in its unfolding. The month-long drama preceding and following the February 7 presidential election in the Philippines excited and provoked thousands here, who recognized that the people’s movement which elected Corazon Aquino held within its grasp the potential to finally depose Marcos. And when he was forcefully overthrown on February 26, the “people’s victory” was also claimed by U.S.-based anti-Marcos forces which had doggedly organized for some fourteen years.
