Introduction

As the Latino population in the continental United States continues to grow, interest in Latino politics has grown as well. Latinos currently make up 12.5 percent of the population (whereas blacks are 12.3 percent and whites 75.1 percent). Census data suggest that Latinos currently constitute approximately 11 percent of the voting-age population. ¹
