ABSTRACT

The '60s, '70s and '80s saw the development of Charismatic/Neo-Pentecostal groups which often engaged in a form of worship that was characteristic of early Pentecostal churches; yet they possessed features that identified them as Charismatic or Neo-Pentecostal. These groups were usually independent, interracial, and non-denominational. The Abundant Life Cathedral (Houston, Texas, 1981) and Crenshaw Christian Center (Los Angeles, 1973) were typical of "nonaligned" churches which did not adhere to a denominational credo. Associations were formed with churches that espoused similar religious views.
