ABSTRACT
Poetry—it is the most natural way to begin our storytelling, language play, or reading aloud with our young children. Don’t we all find ourselves chanting, “This little pig went to market, this little pig stayed home …” as we play with our babies? We do it more or less instinctively because we ourselves heard the chant when young and it comes so naturally.
