Kim T'aejun, 64-65, quotes near contemporary evidence that ifi!J~7U":tdJ!j: Liu Hsiang's "Tales of Women" was translated by order of King Chungjong in 1543, and that the translation, like the original, was illustrated, by 'f.J:{t Yi Sangjwa, the Royal Artist. Pak SOngUi, 181-182,quotes this, and several other sources mention it as the first translation of a novel into Korean. All agree that it is now lost, except that jH§f!ji: Yu Ch'angdon: ~~~.JI!!, Koo Sajon (lR~Xftif!i Tongguk Munhwasa, Seoul, 1955,page 673) states that a block print of vol. 4 is extant in the possession of ~lfHl:l* Hannam SOrim. Since that bookshop itself no longer existed in 1955,it is difficult to know what this means.
