ABSTRACT

There may be some historical basis for the story. This is investigated by all critics, see Kim T'aejun, 87-89,Kim Kidong, 189-196 (1956: 336-342), Pak SongUi, 248-253, and Sin Kihyong, 349-350, but no firm conclusion has been presented. Neither the earlier form of the title Chon Unch'i chon, nor Courant's variant Chon Ulch'i chon, lead to any historical figure either.
