ABSTRACT
David is a junior marketing major who has been using the writing center since his first quarter on campus. He emigrated from Mexico eight years ago and is comfortable in both Spanish and English, although he often seeks consultation on English verb forms and idioms. He made his first appointment to fill the tutoring requirement for his basic writing class, but since then he has used the writing center voluntarily to work on papers for courses in his business major. Candace is a graduate student whose affiliation with the writing center began when she took a graduate course on issues in tutoring writing and then was hired as a writing center tutor. Tutors offer individual consultation to students writing in all disciplines; they focus on generating, developing, and organizing ideas as well as on editing.
