ABSTRACT

In this excursion into group work the term context has two meanings: on the one hand, context refers to the times-the political/social/economic situation in which the group is embedded; and on the other hand, each group contains a multiplicity of contexts-the different specifics of living that each member brings. In both senses, appreciating the impact of context in a postmodern world involves new understandings of the influence of the situational surround and of the institutional, ideological, and historical forces that press upon the lives and perspectives of the group participants. Context is the hub of this journey.
