ABSTRACT

The Saneguruji Storytelling Academy is a small organization in the city of Pune, India, dedicated to promoting storytelling in schools and families. A close look at the organization's history, ideals, repertoire and performance reveals a way of telling stories that combines contemporary and traditional approaches aimed at developing good citizens in a modern nation. Calling on images of grandmother and Gandhi, courageous soldier and scientist, the members of the Saneguruji Storytelling Academy have created a repertoire of stories performed in the style of Indian household storytelling.
