ABSTRACT

Between 1970 and the late 1980s, Middle Eastern terrorism spread throughout the world. Arab terrorists, sometimes supported by their Western counterparts, carried out bombings, assassinations, and hijackings to highlight their cause and strike back against states believed to be supporting Israel. The terrorists themselves splintered into several distinct groups, the more radical of which clamored for the creation of fundamentalist Muslim regimes throughout the region as well as the destruction of Israel.
