ABSTRACT

The demise of the Soviet Union and the subsequent dissolution of the Warsaw Pact and Comecon have left the countries of the CIS in search of new political and economic arrangements with the rest of the world. What follows is an attempt to analyze the current state of relations between the CIS countries and European countries. However, since a full and comprehensive exploration of these relations would obviously require much greater space than is available here, we shall concentrate on the principal organizations and institutions that bring the two groups of countries together.
