Although all kinds of art is created throughout the world, until recently, the U.S. academic community emphasized the birth and development of Western European art. Art history textbooks often relegated non-European cultures to brief surveys or footnotes. Fortunately this has been rapidly changing, and today there is more interest in and scholarly concern with art from elsewhere in the world. In studying the non-European art tradition, you should devise a research plan that uses the following procedures.
