ABSTRACT

The period of history of U.S. agricultural resource use considered here starts with World War I and ends during the 1960’s. The objective of this chapter is to bring sharply into focus, and to treat briefly, by historical periods, the more detailed information contained in the foregoing more specialized chapters. Our study proceeds in the particular context of the policies, programs, and other circumstances, such as wars and phases of the business cycle, that characterized selected epochs of the post-WWI period.
