ABSTRACT

The main objective of our study (as noted earlier) is to investigate the efficiency of both the private and public mechanisms for allocating resources in American agriculture. Therefore, the problems of poverty, welfare, and equality in the distribution of resource ownership are not the study’s concerns, except as they arise in connection with mechanisms that control the use, as contrasted to ownership, of resources. However, since such problems do arise in connection with the on-going operations of the allocative mechanisms as well as with attempts to modify the operations of the mechanism, we must address ourselves to them in a limited way.
