ABSTRACT
In this morning’s cup of coffee and this evening’s sip of tea reside molecules of water that have cycled through Earth’s atmosphere thousands upon thousands of times. Liquid water has been on Earth for at least 3 billion years, circulating between the sea, air, and land. Powered by the sun, this cycling creates an illusion of plenty: fresh water seems limitless because it falls from the sky year after year.
