ABSTRACT

B i r d s Birds are warm-blooded vertebrates that have developed hollow bones, wings and feathers that enable most, but not all, to fly. Some birds are generalists, eating a variety of seeds, nectar, fruit, invertebrates or other animals. Other species have specialized diets. In 2008, an estimated 12 percent (over 1,200) of all known species of bird were considered under threat.
